Plastic is all around us despite the fact that it is harmful to the environment. It is contamining our land and water both. Not everything is recycled as promised. It takes decades to decompose. A lot of efforts are being made on domestic and global front to cut down its usage but we are producing it at an exponential rate. However, the battle is not lost. A major impact will occur when we, as individuals will start acknowledging its imapct on our health.

I have been trying to reduce the usage of plastic bottles used in my house!
And I have been repurposing the rest!

Change will not happen in one day
Cut down one plastic usage in a day, maybe in a week and make the difference. It is very hard to implement because life with plastic is easy and convenient. But we can do it if we take small steps. It is a challenge that we have to accept to do our bit for the next generation. Ever since, I have been minding my ways and trying to adopt zero waste life approach, I have felt overwhelmed and joyful, at the same time. On some days, I am disappointed to see the amount of plastic that we use in our daily lives. But, I am trying to sort things and get my choices right. Its important to shatter some misconceptions as well. And last but not the least, I have started repurposing plastic and other waste for decorating my house. (The last part is extremely satisfying.)
I read this mantra on the internet and I really loved it
‘Use it up, wear it out, make it do or do without.’

The reality is terrifying!

I painted these plastic glasses after use!
It is important to take the first step and say 'No'
We will have to say 'No' to the unwanted plastic that enters our house. We can all begin by saying no to plastic bottles. We must carry cloth bags to buy grocery. And while you do these things, remember every attempt to save things from going to landfills is a step towards zero waste life. Its not a great sight at landfills, recycling plants and garbage units. Therefore, one conscious thought can go a long way. Even the smallest footprint of change becomes a movement.
Let us try to live life with less plastic
Use up old products, upcycle them, donate them, sell them if possible.
A lot of times, we can look for second hand things.
Begin with small changes, ditch the plastic bottles atleast. And if you do use them, dont forget to repurpose them.
Read those sustainability and environmental stories because they do inspire.
Growing your own food cuts down a lot of plastic waste. Do some kitchen gardening.
Simplifying things and analyzing their reuse will bring in behavioral changes
As consumers, we will have to come together to demand change from the brands who are producing such stuff.
Letting go of the excess helps us to identify things we actually value for,
Going zero waste is too far fetched but going low waste is possible for sure.
From my own experience, I can say that there will be failures and frustrations but at the same time, if you have been 'not-so-conscious-user', every effort will matter.
